Bethel LGBTQ+ Pride Parade Scheduled For May

BETHEL, CT — Bethel CT Pride will hold its LGBTQ+ pride parade and celebration on May 7, from noon to 5 p.m., at the Bethel Municipal Center.

The event, founded by middle school students in 2017, will celebrate equality and support the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

A family-friendly celebration will follow the parade and feature live music, kids activities station, 50-plus vendors, and breakout sessions hosted by Apex Community Care, Circle Care Center, and Triangle Community Center. Local LGBTQ+ leader Will Love will lead the sidewalk parade, which spans 1 km through downtown Bethel, beginning across from the Bethel Train Station and ending at the Municipal Center. The Circle Care Center Stage will showcase musical performances by Sans Cherubs and Lana Botex. Salz Pizza and The Snack Shack will serve food throughout the day. The event will take place outdoors, rain or shine.

In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers pivoted to a virtual event and socially distanced rock painting scavenger hunt. The following year, COVID cancelled the event entirely.

"But we are excited to finally return to our roots with an in-person event, especially in light of the many attacks on the LGBTQ+ community happening across the country. Hosting our celebration now seems more vital than ever," said organizer Emily Denaro.

Bethel CT Pride is the biggest LGBTQ+ celebration in the greater Danbury area. The event aims to recognize those who may not have access to LGBTQ+ events in their immediate communities, as well as students and families who are looking for an all-ages event.
