Bethel Mother's Day Flower Workshop Benefits Appalachia Service Project
Want to surprise mom with a fresh made flower bouquet? Come to the Methodist Church and your fee will help support the church mission trip.
What is ASP and what does it have to do with Mother’s Day? ASP stands for The Appalachia Service Project and on Thursday, May 7 the Bethel United Methodist Church (BUMC) is hosting a Mother’s Day flower making fundraiser to support their summer mission trip.
Guests are invited to come to BUMC on Thursday, May 7 from 6:30 - 8 p.m., 141 Greenwood Ave., Bethel. Attendees will learn how to make a homemade floral centerpiece for Mother’s Day worth $50 for just $20. Your donation will go to support the church mission trip so that the BUMC ASP team can help poor families in Appalachia. Volunteers, including a small army of local Bethel teens, will go for one week this summer to Tennessee to help those less fortunate make their homes warmer, safer, and drier.
According to their website, “Appalachia Service Project provides one of the most rewarding structured service opportunities in the nation for youth ages 14-18 and their adult leaders. ASP is more than a building program though, it’s a relationship ministry. Young people will spend time interacting with the family they’ve been assigned to serve. They’ll forge friendships and learn lessons that will enrich their faith and build character for the rest of their lives.”
