Bethel Parks And Rec Cancels Summer Camp Due To Coronavirus

"We are very sad we have to cancel our camps, but we will be working hard to provide you with alternate programming," park officials said.

BETHEL, CT—Bethel's Parks and Recreation Department announced Monday the cancellation of all summer programming for 2020 due to the coronavirus. This includes:

  • Summer Playground Camps
  • Basketball Camp
  • Baseball Camp
  • Tennis Camps and lessons
  • Skyhawks
  • US Sports
  • Tuesday Night Soccer
  • Summer Theatre Program
  • Firecracker Road Race

"We are very sad we have to cancel our camps, but we will be working hard to provide you with alternate programming. Some ideas are: Zoom camp activities and bingo, virtual theater programs with ERA Productions," park officials said.

  • Playgrounds
  • The dog park is closed until at least Phase two or three of reopening.
  • All fields and BMX remain closed until at least July 20, details to follow.
  • Organized Youth Sports, BMX Racing and Adult leagues are cancelled till August.
  • Tennis Courts will tentatively reopen June 6 with single play only. For further guidelines look at USTA.

All the parks and the school complex will remain open with social distancing.

"We are following the governor's plans to gradually reopen as it is safe to do so," officials said. "We expect changes to occur over the coming months and will update you as new guidance from the Governor and health department are received."
