Bethel Police Sergeant Cleared in 2009 Fatal Shooting

The State's Attorney's office has reportedly ruled that Sgt. Michael Libertini, currently with the Bethel Police Department, was justified in fatally shooting 56-year-old Joseph Della Ventura in the woods behind a Grassy Plain apartment complex Oct. 24, 2

 

A sergeant with the has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the 2009 fatal shooting of an armed suspect.

According to a report in the CT Post, the Connecticut State's Attorney's office has ruled that was justified in fatally shooting 56-year-old Joseph Della Ventura in the woods behind a Grassy Plain apartment complex Oct. 24, 2009.

According to a report made public by Danbury State's Attorney Stephen Sedensky on Monday, Sgt. Libertini acted "reasonably" when he fired a single round into Ventura's chest. According to police, Ventura was aiming a fully loaded — albeit defective — .22 calibre pistol at officer Adam Cleary at the moment Sgt. Libertini made the decision to fire.
