Bethel Public Library Hosts Local Author And Vietnam Vet
His novel tells the story of the American and Vietnamese boys who were called upon, often unwillingly, to fight on foreign soil.
BETHEL, CT - From Bethel Public Library: Local author Dr. Charles McNair will talk about his book, Soldiers of a Foreign War, on Saturday, May 11, 2:00-3:00 pm, at the Bethel Public Library. The novel tells the story of the American and Vietnamese boys who were called upon, often unwillingly, to fight on foreign soil. It follows two American infantry platoons, a combat cell, surgical hospital staff, and villagers, and relays the effects of war on each group.
The author himself is a veteran of the Vietnam War, who enlisted in 1968 and was assigned to the 45th Surgical Hospital in Vietnam as an OR tech. Dr. McNair began this novel in 1971 and completed it in 2015. The intervening years were filled with family life, medical school, and a career as a doctor in Woodbury, CT.
