Bethel Readies for Construction of New Track and Field Facility
The 48,000 square foot facility is being funded by an anonymous donor.

BETHEL, CT —Selectmen met with the public Monday night and reviewed plans for a new track and field center, the News Times is reporting. The Planning and Zoning Commission met last month to grant a special permit for the project, which is being funded by an anonymous donor.
The facility would include a 200-meter track, bathrooms, storage and space for athletes to practice hurdling, long jumping and the shot put. The second floor plans also include workout equipment and offices.
The 48,000 square foot facility could open in mid-November of next year.

The plan calls for the town to lease the lot to the donor for $1 a year for five years, after which the donor would turn the building over to the Board of Education. There will be an option to extend the lease for another year or end it early if the project is done sooner.
The selectmen have yet to approve to lease the land to the donor during construction. They hope to do so at their regular meeting next week or a special meeting later this week.
