Bethel Residents To Vote On $85M Proposed Budget

The combined town and schools budget proposal runs about 4.45 percent above the current spending plan.

BETHEL, CT — Residents will convene Monday for the annual town to vote to send the proposed 2022-23 budget to referendum, and determine the date of the budget vote.

The proposed $51.2 million schools budget represents at 4.43 percent increase over the current spending plan. As is typical, the lion's share of the spend is for employee salaries and benefits, roughly $33.9 million and $10 million, respectively.

The selectmen have proposed a $34.2 million plan to covering the town operating budget, debt service and school building maintenance. That's about a 2 percent increase over the current spend.

The meeting will take place in the auditorium at Bethel Middle School, 600 Whittlesey Drive, beginning at 7 p.m. Residents are asked to arrive early, to allow for the registrar of voters to check their identification. Childcare will be provided for children ages 4 and toilet trained.
