Bethel Restaurant Scores: Downtown Part 3

Editor’s note: In this series, Patch shares local restaurant scores with readers. All information was provided by the town’s health department. Check the bottom of the article for links to more scores in town and nearby.

How safe is the take-out or restaurant food you’re eating? Local health departments visit restaurants unannounced a few times per year to ensure customers are protected from health concerns that could make them sick.

Each restaurant is scored by the local health department using a debit system. Starting at 100 points, the restaurant is debited one to four points, depending on the violations. Four point items are of most concern while a one point debit is important, but less of a concern.

Below are the health inspection scores for restaurants located in downtown Bethel.

Peachwave, 213 Greenwood Ave.

• Inspected July 2015
• Score - 96
• Points were taken off for not having a thermometer in front section of refrigerator, no chlorine residual noted in sanitizing buckets.
• Corrections must be made by Dec. 2015

Pizzeria Lauretano, 296 Greenwood Ave.

• Inspected July 2015
• Score - 94
• Points were taken off for ice build-up in reach-in, no chlorine residual noted in sanitizing buckets.
• Corrections must be made by Oct. 2015

Plain Jane’s, 208 Greenwood Ave.

• Inspected July 2015
• Score - 97
• Three points were taken off for lack of “No Smoking” sign on outside door.
• Correction must be made by Oct. 2015

Portofino’s Restaurant, 213 Greenwood Ave.

• Inspected July 2015
• Score - 95
• Points were taken off for failure to properly clean rubber door gaskets, soap dispensers not being operational, freezer needing to be defrosted.
• Corrections must be made by Oct. 2015

Putnam House, 12 Depot Place

• Inspected Sept. 2015
• Score - 95
• Two points were taken off for red hollow stirrers being used instead of solid stirrers, not placing items in walk-in high enough, floor in basement needs repair.
• Correction must be made by Dec. 2015

Rocco’s Italian Deli, 208 Greenwood Ave.

• Inspected July 2015
• Score - 92
• Points were taken off for overstocking the bain marie, not having soap and paper towels at the hand sink, hood of stove needing to be cleaned, and others.
• Corrections must be made by Oct. 2015

Sal’z Pizza, 211 Greenwood Ave.

• Inspected Aug. 2015
• Score - 96
• Points were taken off for not having sanitizing buckets and rubber door gaskets needing to be cleaned.
• Corrections must be made by Nov. 2015

The Spot, One Front Street

• Inspected Sept. 2015
• Score - 91
• Points were taken off for leaving utensils in food products overnight, water build-up in bottom shelf of bain marie, leaky faucet at 3-bay sink.
• Corrections must be made by Dec. 2015

The Square Creamery, 7 P.T. Barnum Square

• Inspected June 2015
• Score - 99
• One point was taken off for not having operational ventilation in the restroom.
• Corrections must be made by Oct. 2015

Subway, 213 Greenwood Ave.

• Inspected Sept. 2015
• Score - 98
• Two points were taken off for storing paper cups next to garbage container in self-serve soda area.
• Correction must be made by Dec. 2015

Subway, 14 Grassy Plain Street

• Inspected July 2015
• Score - 98
• Points were taken off for rubber floor gaskets needing to be cleaned and lack of sanitizing buckets.
• Correction must be made by Oct. 2015

Sycamore Restaurant, 282 Greenwood Ave.

• Inspected July 2015
• Score - 95
• Points were taken off for improper storage of foods in walk-in, too much product in the bain marie, build-up in milk dispenser and ice cream unit.
• Correction must be made by Oct. 2015

Varano’s Bakery, 198 Greenwood Ave.

• Inspected May 2015
• Score - 93
• Points were taken off for not covering food in walk-in refrigerator, mixers not being properly cleaned, convection ovens needing to be cleaned.
• Correction must be made by Oct. 2015

Whitlock’s Restaurant, 273 Greenwood Ave.

• Inspected Sept. 2015
• Score - 97
• Points were taken off for stacking glasses on top of each other at waitress station and rubber door gaskets of beer cooler needing cleaning.
• Correction must be made by Dec. 2015
