Bethel Superintendent Makes Important Announcement Regarding Hot Temperatures This Week

Danbury and Milford Public School officials have called for an early delay on Tuesday, Sept. 8 due to the oppressive heat forecasted for this week.

Dr. Christine Carver, Superintendent of Schools, sent the following letter to parents Monday evening via email:

“Each fall we experience short periods of heat and humidity, making us all uncomfortable and concerned about the heat. When these conditions occur, I am aware of conditions in the non-air-conditioned portions of our school buildings and the potential health impact it may have on students and staff. I remain in contact with all of our principals and Mr. Germinaro, our Director of Facility & Security Operations, to monitor conditions in our classrooms and to discuss options for those in our warmest spaces, we are able to cycle classes to cooler and more comfortable spaces, we are able to us use fans, reduce physical activity, and increase hydration for our students and staff.

This week the forecast calls for temperatures in the high 80’s to 90’s on Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday. Our priority is the well-being, health, and safety of our students and staff. You can be assured that we are monitoring the conditions at each of our school buildings, and will take the necessary measures to ensure that your children and our staff are comfortable and safe.

Currently, I do not anticipate an early dismissal due to the forecasted heat, and I remind everyone to bring hydration to school and to limit physical activity.”
