The 'Blessing of Animals' Will Take Place on Oct. 4 in Bethel

Have your pet blessed at this lovely community event that brings together animal lovers!

On Saturday, October 4, 2014, at 11:30 a.m., St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church will be conducting a “Blessing of the Animals” that will take place at the gazebo on the Clifford J. Hurgin Municipal lawn, 1 School Street, Bethel CT.

It is customary for churches to hold ceremonies blessing the animals on October 4th in commemoration of Saint Francis of Assisi, born Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone (1181 – October 3, 1226) who was an Italian friar and preacher. He is known as the patron saint of animals and is one of the two patron saints of Italy (with Catherine of Siena). St. Francis of Assisi is also known for his love of the Eucharist, his sorrow during the stations of the cross, and for the creation of the Christmas Nativity Scene.
