NRA Sponsors Lobby Day at the Capitol: 11 Mar 2013

NRA sponsors Lobby Day, at the Hartford Capitol, 11 Mar 2013. Support our gun rights!

From CCDL:

NRA Sponsors Lobby Day

Several participants (CCDL, CCS and NSSF) will be coordinating with the NRA to participate and support a Lobby Day scheduled at the Legislative Office building on March 11th starting at 10:00 am till 4:00 pm. The intent of this Lobby Day is to have our elected officials witness an overwhelming show of unity for the support of 2nd Amendment rights by citizens of Connecticut. This event is timed to have a large turnout during the most visible day of the week at the Legislative Office Building and will show our legislators that we will not let our rights be stripped away. The CCDL executive committee met with two NRA State Liaisons this last Monday at our executive meeting to discuss several strategies for countering anti-gun legislation. We are extremely pleased that they have taken the time to coordinate this event, and we are glad that they are on the ground fighting with us in Hartford.

CCDL is encouraging our members to attend this special event, and to seek out your legislators to discuss the issues of gun rights and the importance of protecting them. We are running out of time, so we must let our voices be heard. We Need a Massive Turnout on This Day So Please Come Join Us!

Date:  Monday, March 11 Time:  10:00 a.m. Where:  300 Capitol Avenue in Hartford Parking: Free parking will be available at Cabela’s in Hartford located at 475 East Hartford Boulevard North, East Hartford, CT 06118 Transportation:   A complimentary shuttle service will run between Cabela’s and the state Capitol between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, here is the release from the NRA. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pressure on Bipartisan Task Force Prevention on Gun Violence and Children's Safety

Time is running short, and more public statements from elected officials indicate that a small scale public hearing may be scheduled now that the Task force is turning over its recommendations to the leadership in the legislature. The majority of the public will be shut out! There is likely to be a vote on a proposed e-cert package within the next two weeks.

A small scale public hearing would not suffice in our views. We need to keep up the pressure to have FULL public hearings!

Actions Needed Now:
1) Contact your own state Reps and Senators and ask them to oppose any proposed legislation that is introduced that has not had a full public hearing.

Find your legislators here: http://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/menu/CGAFindLeg.asp

2) Call the Legislative Leadership! Speaker Rep. Brendan Sharkey 860-240-8577 House Minority Leader Rep. Larry Cafero 860-240-0028 House Majority Leader Rep. Joe Aresimowicz 860-240-8581 Senate Minority Leader Senator John McKinney 860-240-8846 President of the Senate Don Williams 860-240-8634 Majority Leader of the Senate Martin Looney 860-240-0375 This is another very important push to make sure that our elected officials understand that we will not sit back and let them pass laws that diminish our rights! We are having an effect and we must sustain our efforts. Call and email today!
We need to demand FULL public hearings on all gun related bills! Please be polite and courteous when communicating with legislators.

Gun Violence Working Group Conducted Final Hearing

The final hearing was conducted with a clear message from some of the members on the committee that they had expected a full consensus agreement sent to Party leadership on a clear proposal. What ended up happening were two separate lists being drafted from each party from within the group. There are some items of agreement (crossover) between both sides. Here is the Link to the Hartford Courant article with the proposals: Democratic Republican
