Reasons to Relay #5 -- Celebrate
Relay For Life is an opportunity to celebrate the cancer survivors in our community.
The 2013 Relay For Life of Bethel is an overnight, grassroots fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. This year's event will take place on Saturday, June 8. Since it's 2013, we'll be sharing 13 reasons why YOU should join us at Relay For Life. Reason #5 is Celebrate.

It's the Relay For Life motto, and it also describes the event itself. Relay begins with a celebration of life -- in particular, the lives of those who have battled cancer and won.
At the Relay For Life of Bethel, local cancer survivors are treated to a Survivors Reception prior to the event. Survivors and their Caregivers join each other for food, camaraderie, entertainment, and inspiration. In addition, those who have been newly diagnosed can find comfort and hope in those who have won their battles with cancer.

After the reception, the Survivors march over to the track and kick off Relay with the Survivor Lap. Other Relay participants line the track and applaud as the Survivors make their way around the track. For the second lap, their Caregivers join them -- again, they are celebrated as they walk.
Each and every Survivor is a cause for celebration. They are living proof that we are making progress in the battle against cancer.
Do you know someone who has survived a cancer diagnosis? Please join us on June 8 to celebrate them -- and all of our local Survivors. Let them know that we stand with them, and won't stop until we've found a cure.
To register for the Survivors Reception, please contact Rob Gerowe at the American Cancer Society: Rob.Gerowe@cancer.org or 203-563-1538.
