The attempted assault on Free Speech in Bethel

Tonight in Bethel,

There was an attempted assault on Free Speech here in our town.

Luckily there were no injuries except maybe a few bruised ego’s from some Bethel Republicans who were forced to hear the cold hard truths spoken by the citizens of this town.

And even though they went as far, as to try to limit our time, giving us one whole hour, because they certainly didn’t like what we had to say and perhaps to escape further embarrassment, by humiliating themselves completely with the absurdity of this proposal.

Approximately 130 Bethel citizens, (most) of whom were there to defend free speech, and yes even a few to dispute it, actually I really don’t know what their message was, because they really don’t seem to have one  other than, they just don’t like what ours is!

For the last 31 plus weeks in Bethel, and surrounding towns in Fairfield County, we’ve been writing postcards to our state officials, we’ve been hanging off bridges with signs, and we’ve been peacefully protesting in P.T. Barnum Square.

And every week it’s been peaceful messages of, protecting our neighbors, the reality of food insecurity, preserving the US constitution, and yes even FREE SPEECH!

But tonight in this same Bethel, Dan Carter held a meeting where this fundamental right, the one that is enshrined in the constitution for all of us, was actually under debate which is just crazy!

So about 120 Citizens of Bethel, and even other towns all showed up here to say, “You will not silence us” and if you do, we will come back with even bigger numbers, and we will be even louder!!  Because we will not stop, until IT stops, until the craziness stops!

And because it is our right to use our public green to speak freely, and to  stand up for Democracy and the rule of law, especially when it’s clearly under assault!

At least 40 people spoke out tonight, each passionately sharing their (whys) and need to protest, because they to all realize this is not normal and that (we) need to be a constant reminder of that fact!

That our weekly presence there, may be a nuisance to some, but to most it’s a comfort for them, to see the Power of the People in action, and right here in our town.

There were also 2 lolly people who spoke to the other position, which I can only assume meant they’re in favor of curbing free speech????, or perhaps it’s because they really have NOTHING to say???

And from the little I did hear from them, what they stand for is merely to stand (against) us, and everything we have been fighting for.

Things like Human decency, free will  for all, kindness and inclusiveness for everyone and ALL OF THE TIME!

“With Liberty and Justice For All”,but  It seems they’ve forgotten about that part.

But we haven’t and  we won’t be silenced or stopped EVER!  Not Until the fascist is gone, then so will we be.

We’ll be gone “Poof” just like that, because none of us want to be doing this! We  want to go back to discussing policies and ideas, but unfortunately until this Regime is gone, both nationally and now it seems locally, we are holding our ground and that ground is Our Town Square, we’re we’ve been for 31 weeks and counting.

For our children and grandchildren, and yours too, we’re standing strong and we will make a better world for them, but we will need your help….

So please vote Blue this election season Bethel!!

Because all politics are local, and the Bethel Republicans are really letting us down, time and time again!

Vote Blue, like your life and livelihood depends on it, cause it does!
