Codfish Hill Cell Tower Will Be Built Despite Resident Complaints

A hotly contested proposal to build a cell tower in Bethel's Codfish Hill area has ended with officials giving the tower the green light.

Despite months of protests from Codfish Hill residents against North Atlantic Towers’ proposal to build a cell phone tower in their residential neighborhood, state officials unanimously approved the plans, according to the News Times.

North Atlantic Towers received approval from the Connecticut Siting Council to build a 150-foot tower on a private property located at 62-64 Codfish Hill Road, just off Wolfpits Roas and Route 302.

According to the report, AT&T backed out over the summer and Verizon will be the tower’s main tenant.

Residents expressed their concerns in a July meeting citing health hazards, noise pollution, declining property values and the tower being an eyesore. Some made a Facebook page called Stop the Codfish Cell Tower to share info and encourage others to speak out. Four hundred and seventy-two signatures were collected on a Change.og petition as well.
