CT State Police New Year's Holiday Crime and Accident Stats Released

The numbers reveal that significantly more accidents and citations were issued this year by Connecticut State Police over the holiday.

Connecticut State Police released their New Year’s holiday enforcement stats and the numbers show that the number of accidents and citations issued were all way up this year when compared to last year.

Specifically, the number of speeding offenses and hazardous moving violations were way up this year compared to last year. The number of accidents reported was also up significantly too.

The enforcement period began at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 31 and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 3.

The final stats reveal:

Accidents: 215

Accidents with injury: 27

Accidents fatality: 1 - Route 15 northbound Exit 68

DUI arrests: 33

Speeding: 1,097

Seatbelt: 35

Hazardous Moving violations (to include following too close, distracted driving, cell phones, etc.): 2,470

During the enforcement period, State Police added additional roving patrols on all of the state’s highways and secondary roads. Additionally, sobriety checkpoints were set up in an effort to deter anyone from the consumption of alcohol and driving as they celebrated the New Year.

2014-2015 Statistics (12/30/14-1/2/15):

Accidents: 158

Accidents with injury: 28

Accidents with fatality: 0



DUI arrests: 38

Speeding: 726

Seatbelts: 22

Hazardous moving violations: 1,593
