Emma Barbara (Littner) Kappler, 104, of Bethel, Died Dec. 25

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church in Bethel on Wednesday.

Emma Barbara (Littner) Kappler, age 104, of Bethel, CT died Friday, December 25, 2015 at Bethel Health Care. She was the widow of Willi Kappler.

She was born September 9, 1911 in Gundelfingen, Germany, daughter of the late Otto and Frieda Littner. Formerly of the Bronx, after retiring she moved to Long Island and then she became a resident of Bethel in 1996. While living in Connecticut, she volunteered at the Red Cross and Salvation Army and was sent a letter of thanks for her work by President Obama. At her 100th birthday in 2011 First Selectman Knickbocker proclaimed that day “her day” in Bethel.

She is survived by her grandson: Peter Kappler and his wife Carol of League City, TX: granddaughter: Margaret Tully and her husband Bill of Bethel and great grandchildren: Chris and Mark.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Bethel, Wednesday morning at 10:00. There are no calling hours and internment will be private in New York.
