Four Fatal Accidents Reported Statewide Over Memorial Day Weekend
State Police stepped up enforcement against DUI, seatbelt use and speeding.

The Connecticut State Police reported 260 motor vehicle accidents, four of which were fatal, over the Memorial Day weekend (from May 27-30), as well as a total of 70 arrests for driving under the influence and 978 for driving without a seatbelt. More than 2,000 speeding tickets were also handed out.
According to Lt. Paul Vance, Connecticut State Police spokesman, "The Memorial Day weekend enforcement operation utilized additional Troopers who manned sobriety checkpoints, targeted DWI and aggressive driving and patrol across the State of Connecticut."
"Motorists are reminded as summer continued, if they see a suspected drunk driver call 911 as this is a true emergency. Help the State Police keep the highways and roadways of Connecticut safe," Vance concluded in his statewide release.
