Fundraiser Set After Blaze Destroys Bethel Fire Chief's Home
An online fundraiser has been set up for Chief Scott Murphy and his family who lost their home last month.
BETHEL, CT — A fundraising drive has been established online for the family of Fire Chief Scott Murphy following a fire in their home last month. Murphy, his wife, one of his children and grandchildren all lived in the Reservoir Street home.
According to a Facebook post from Murphy, "...due to fire smoke and water damage we have lost just about everything." Initial reports of the Feb. 13 blaze described fire in the walls, and first responders found heavy fire showing from the rear porch.
Jay Oldham is organizing the GoFundMe drive. "Chief Murphy, and his father before him, have faithfully served the Town of Bethel for many years. They now need our help! Please generously help this family in need!" Oldham posted on the fundraising site.

One day into the drive, $2,045 has been raised. The fundraising goal is $25,000.
