Get Out: An Artsy Weekend

Photography exhibits and a staged reading in Newtown

t's a quiet weekend for nightlife as the holidays fade and the world settles in for some quiet time. However, if you are feeling the need to get out and take advantage of weather that still is incredibly decent for January, there are a lot of exhibits, particularly photography, opening this weekend. There is also a staged reading of a play in Newtown, with a discussion to be held afterward. Stretch your muscles and broaden your mind! Get Out!

 

Molten Java, 213 Greenwood Ave, Bethel, will be opening their doors at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. After you grab your first cup of joe, walk up the antique stairs to The Upstairs Gallery, where you can grab a seat amidst beautiful artwork curated by the Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance.

The HVCA presents Local Works, and Bethel artists Katie Bassett and Thomas Nackid will be featured for this inaugural exhibit from January 14 through February 18. A public artist’s reception will be held on January 27 from 6:00 to 8:00PM., sponsored by the Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance. The exhibit can be viewed during Molten Java’s normal business hours.

ocally Grown Art Exhibit is opening at the  The exhibit is holding their opening on Saturday, January 14th with an Artist Meet & Greet from 3pm to 5pm. Refreshments will be served.

 Sculpture, painting and photography by featured artists: Jane Bennett · Eric Camiel · Barry Collins · Giada Crispiels · Randy Lagana · Honorah O'Neil · Lysbeth Guillorn.

The exhibit is in partnership with The Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance. Artwork will be available for purchase throughout the exhibit which will run through March 24, 2012. The museum is open Tues-Fri from 10 to 3, and Saturday from 10 to 4. This event is free & open to the public.    

An SKTC New Work by award-winning playwright Kent R. Brown. Upon receiving a compassionate release from prison, Amos Butcher tries to find forgiveness and rebuild what is left of his life.

SKTC presents staged readings of contemporary classics and new works with professional actors. All evenings include a post-play discussion, coffee and dessert by Andrea's Pastry Shop.Saturday, January 14, 7:30 pm
