Bethel Man Charged with Killing His Brother
The suspect had been detained by the New Milford police on Monday.

BETHEL, CT — Police have charged the younger brother of the man who was found dead in an Apollo Road home with his murder.
Matthew O'Dell, 40, was arrested and charged with the homicide of Richard O’Dell, 42, by Bethel Police at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Bethel police had responded to a call from Richard O'Dell's mother around 6:30 p.m. on Monday. She believed her son had committed suicide. Police determined that the elder O’Dell "had been shot several times and had post mortem artifacts indicating that he had been dead for several hours," according to Capt. Stephen Pugner of the Bethel police.

Police discovered that a handgun had also been taken from the home. The weapon, and Matthew O'Dell, were both in the custody of the New Milford Police. The younger O'Dell was arrested by the NMPD on Monday morning "as the result of an altercation," according to the police report. The shell casings found at the Apollo Road crime scene were "consistent with" the ammunition found in the gun the NMPD took from Matthew O'Dell, Pugner said.
The New Milford Police drove Matthew O'Dell to Danbury Superior Court where he was formally charged with the murder of his brother on Wednesday morning. He is being held on $1 million bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 22.
