Obituary: Joseph Michael Wochek, 90, Of Bethel

Joe was a former president of the Bethel Baseball Association and a longtime member of the Connecticut Beekeepers Association.

BETHEL, CT — Joseph Michael Wochek, 90, of Bethel passed away on July 22, 2023, at the Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene Olson Wochek.

Joe was born on January 1, 1933, to the late George W. Wochek and Madeline Burke Wochek in Danbury. He graduated Henry Abbott Tech High School and later volunteered in the US Navy, fighting on the USS New Jersey and the USS Missouri during the Korean War.

Joe was a lifelong member and former captain at Wooster Hose Volunteer Firehouse in Danbury, as well as a deputy director of the Danbury Civil Defense/Preparedness.

In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by his sons: Mark Douglas Wochek (Trish Murray Wochek) of Woodbury; and Michael Stuart Wochek (Toni Sachetti Wochek) of Lilburn, GA. He was also survived by his grandchildren: Amanda, Shaun, Axel and Erika.

He was predeceased in death by his 3 sisters: Josephine, Madeline and Mildred.
Joe was an electrician at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford for over 30 years, retiring in 2001. He was a former president of the Bethel Baseball Association and a longtime member of the Connecticut Beekeepers Association.

Joe loved gardening, beekeeping and helping family, friends, and neighbors with projects and odd jobs. Joe also liked watching a good baseball or football game and although he never claimed a favorite team, he definitely preferred watching the Mets and the Jets.

At Joe’s request there will be no calling hours and the burial will be private.
