Obituary: Mary E. Bennitt, 81, Lifelong Bethel Resident

Mary enjoyed traveling, many years spent at her home in Cape Cod, watching sports on TV, especially the Green Bay Packers and anything Ohio.

BETHEL, CT — Mary E. Bennitt, age 81, of Bethel, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023 at Filosa Rehabilitation Center, Danbury. She died peacefully, surrounded by family. She was the wife of the late Roger S. Bennitt.

She was born Feb. 7, 1942 in Danbury, daughter of the late Leonard E. and Mary E. (Haffner) Staib. Mary graduated from Bethel High School in 1959, was a lifelong Bethel resident, and remained very close friends with many of her classmates. She devoted several years to raising her three daughters, then worked for Union Trust Savings Bank, attorney John F. Spain, and Boehringer Ingelheim, before her retirement.

Mary enjoyed traveling, many years spent at her home in Cape Cod, watching sports on TV, especially the Green Bay Packers and anything Ohio. She loved spending time with her beloved cat, Aspen. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandsons, Tyler and Andrew.

Mary is survived by her daughters: Cindy (Bennitt) Tilbe (Gary) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Melanie Bennitt of Pittsfield, MA, and Karyn Bennitt of Stamford; her pre-deceased brother Leonard Staib, Jr. (Anita), her sister, Ruth Nehez (John), brothers, George Staib (Cynthia), Gary Staib (Gwen), her grandsons: Tyler Tilbe (Caitlin) of Boston, MA, and Andrew Tilbe of New York, NY. and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Thursday evening, Aug. 31, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A brief service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel will be private.
