In Memory of Dorothy M. Derbyshire, 90, of Bethel
Mrs. Derbyshire passed away peacefully at Saint John Paul II Health Care Center on Dec. 15, 2015 with her family by her side.

Dorothy M. Derbyshire, 90, of Bethel, beloved wife of the late Edwin Derbyshire, passed away peacefully at Saint John Paul II Health Care Center on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 with her family by her side.
Dorothy was born August 4, 1925 in McAdoo, PA, daughter of the late James and Hannah Coll. She graduated in 1943 from McAdoo High School while also attending McCann’s Business School in the evenings. In July 1943, she moved to Wilmington, Delaware and worked for the DuPont Company in the Accounting Department. During WWII she joined the USO where dances took place for the service men.
Dorothy met her husband through her brother Joe who was stationed with Ed during the war. They were married in 1954 and moved to Danbury to begin their lives together. She worked for Manning, Maxwell and Moore in Danbury. They moved to Bethel in 1961 and after the children were old enough she went back to work as a secretary at Center School in Bethel and then as the late Attorney John Spain’s secretary until retiring in 1986.
Dorothy was an avid reader and loved going to the Danbury Library. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking wonderful meals for her family.
Dorothy was predeceased by her brothers John, William, David and Joseph Coll and her sisters Mary Donahoe and Katherine Wright.
She is survived by her son James H. Derbyshire of Danbury and her daughter Joanne Gallagher and husband Kevin of New Fairfield and her grandchildren: Timothy, Shawn, Amy, Abby and Tommy.
Funeral services was held at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Wooster Cemetery. Family and friends called at the Green Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
