Helga (Haubrich) Roth Harde (77), passed away peacefully on December 11, 2015 after a long illness.
She was the daughter of the late Karl & Hilde (Weber) Haubrich. She was the wife of her loving husband, Wilfred Harde.
Helga was born, raised and educated in Schutzbach, Germany and immigrated to this country in 1960. She cherished her German heritage and traditions, which sparked her passion to become a restaurateur. Her lengthy food industry career began humbly with her first endeavor “Helga’s Hotdogs.”
Her love of cooking and interacting with people drove her to open a delicatessen “Helga’s Kitchen.” She had a life-long dream of opening a German restaurant which was realized with the opening of “Helga’s.” She had a boisterous and charismatic personality, avid sense of humor, and could be found at that venue singing German Polkas, dancing and entertaining her patrons until her retirement due to illness.
Helga admired her devoted husband, Fred, whom she met at the restaurant and both of their lives were forever changed and enhanced as a result of that chance encounter. Helga took great pride in her family and so loved her grandchildren.
As with her own three daughters, she enjoyed dressing them up in traditional German attire and showing them off. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to Blaze Cass, of Quincy, MA, and Shane Cass, of Oakville, CT. She will also be sadly missed by her daughter, Christina Roth Matthews, of Oakville, CT.
She was predeceased by her daughters, Betty Roth Bogie and Suzanne Roth as well as her sister, Inge Jngst. She is survived by her children by marriage: Renee Harde & Nancy Gajee, Derek & Melissa Kramer, and their daughters, Sophia and Chloe Kramer, and her son-in-law, Reid Bogie of New Milford, CT.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the many individuals who cared for Helga during her illness.
A Memorial service was held at the Bethel Funeral Home.
A graveside service was held at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The family received friends at the Bethel Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Regional Hospice, 30 Milestone Rd., Danbury, CT.
