Neighbor of Bethel Fire Victims Set Up Fundraising Campaign to Help Family Rebuild

The family's home was completely destroyed in the fire, which is still under investigation.

BETHEL, CT — The neighbor of the family whose home was destroyed in the April 30 fire at Plumtrees Heights Condos has set up a GoFundMe page to help the family rebuild.

Katie Putnam wrote the following on her site:

"On the morning of Saturday, April 30th, my neighbors condominium in Bethel caught fire. Thank God nobody was injured. The Bethel and Stony Hill fire Departments were dispatched to our condominium complex and the arriving units found heavy fire rapidly extending up and into the end unit. There is severe fire, smoke and water damage to the entire unit. My neighbor lived in the home with her husband, 5 year old little girl and 7 year old little boy. I am raising money to help them try to rebuild their lives and their home. No donation is too big or too small! Thank you all for your generosity and helping a neighbor in need."

Firefighters from Bethel Fire Department, Stony Hill, Danbury's Engine 22 battled the blaze which was quickly extinguished. Mutual Aid was provided by the City of Danbury. West Redding and Brookfield Fire Departments provided standby coverage in town. Nobody was injured in the fire and firefighters were even able to save the family fish.

The American Red Cross is helping the family with housing and other needs.

The victim of the fire, "Kristen," said:

"We are eternally grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, generosity, concern, and help from the amazing people of Bethel. We are the luckiest people in the world. The First Responders are SUPER HEROES and we can never properly repay them for [their] work. A family member of ours is a volunteer firefighter in NC, so we deeply understand the sacrifice that these Angels and their Families make on a daily basis. The Bethel FD and PD and EMTs are unstoppable!! Our family is strong and surrounded by so much love that we are going to emerge from this better than ever and ready to pay it forward one million fold."
