Obituary: Dolores E. Dee, 78, Of Bethel

Dolores was recognized with the Statesman Award, the highest Jaycee honor.

BETHEL, CT — Dolores E. Dee, 78, of Bethel, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, with her family by her side after a long battle with dementia. Dolores was married to John Dee, Sr, who passed away in 2017, for 52 years. She was born in Stamford, the daughter of Stanley and Isabel Johnson Woundy.

Dolores was the office manager at Kman Glass for over three decades until she retired to take care of her husband John. When moving to Bethel in 1970, Dolores became very involved with the community and local organizations. She was a founding member of the local chapter of the Bethel Womens’ Jaycees. She held various positions, including president from 1976 – 1977. Dolores was recognized with the highest Jaycee award, which was the Statesman Award. The award was presented to her by the late Governor, Jodi Rell, who was a committee member of the statewide women’ Jaycees at the time.

Dolores was also a long-time member of the International Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a social and service sorority. Becoming a member in 1963, Dolores held many leadership roles, including president for numerous terms.

Dolores was predeceased by her mother Isabel Johnson Woundy, father Stanley Woundy, brother Douglas Woundy and loving husband John Dee, Sr.

Survivors include her son John Dee, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Danbury, son Kevin Dee and wife Trisha of Oxford, grandchildren Ashley and Jimmy Dee, as well as many nieces and nephews, her cat Tinky and her furry grandchildren.

Friends will be received Sunday, Aug. 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St. Danbury. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Aug. 28, at St. Mary Church, 26 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel, at 10:00 a.m. A burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Danbury Animal Welfare Society 147 Grassy Plain St. Bethel, CT. 06801 may be made in Dolores’ memory.
