Obituary: Hans Schwebler, of Bethel

Hans learned the art of wood carving and furniture making from his father and eventually completed masterworks for the Smithsonian Institute

Bethel, CT — Hans Schwebler born December 17, 1956 passed away peacefully on January 20, 2019 after a courageous, five-year, battle with cancer. In his younger years, he was active in many activities such as Taekwondo, scuba diving, and boating. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed all that nature offered.

He began his life long career in his father's business, Wood Reproduction Studio. Hans learned the art of wood carving and furniture making from his father, Master Sculptor Christian Schwebler. As he moved through his training, he became accomplished and worked on museum pieces and eventually completed masterworks for the Smithsonian Institute.

Hans loved his family and joins his mother and father, grandparents and many other relatives that have passed over. He will be missed by his brother Gerhard Schwebler; sisters Heidi Linnell and Christine Schwebler Visuano; in-laws Patty Schwebler and John Visuano; nephews and nieces Christian, Mike and Elise Schwebler, Hannah and Jane Linnell, Sabina and Min Visuano; and extended family in Germany, the Müllers and Brauchlers. The family also wants to thank and acknowledge the friends that loved and supported Hans through his illness, James Scalzo, Robert Pomfret, Todd Britton, and many more.
