BETHEL, CT — In loving memory of our mother, Joan Frances Grosshart, who passed away on April 1, 2023, just shy of her 90th birthday. She was the devoted wife of the late Paul John Grosshart and mother of seven children. Joan died peacefully in her sleep with family by her side after battling dementia in her final years. Known as “Mayme” to her grandchildren, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Joan was born to the late Joseph and Lucy Post, April 9, 1933, and raised in East Hartford, with her sister, Mary Lou. After high school, she attended secretarial school and worked in Connecticut Governor John Lodge’s administration.

She met her husband on a blind date and was married on June 29, 1957. She was a busy mom raising seven children, eventually settling in Bethel in 1974. Joan enjoyed gardening, baking, the New York Times crossword, and a good game of cribbage. She was active in the Bethel Garden Club, Newtown Women’s Club, Red Hat Society, American Red Cross and an active parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Bethel.
She is survived by her seven children Paul, Mary Ellen, Susan, Ross, Carl, Robert and Katherine, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Paul, sister Mary Lou Carlson, and granddaughter Jillian Prall.

A private service and celebration of life will be held in Bethel on June 3rd. Donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
