Obituary: John A. Riley, 86, Of Bethel

BETHEL, CT — John A. Riley, 86, of Bethel, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023. He was the husband of Lillian W. (Hughes) Riley.

John was born in Boston, MA on Jan. 9, 1937, son of the late James Francis and Alice Elizabeth (Murphy) Riley.

John was a loving husband and father, an electrical engineer with several patents and a self-taught carpenter, electrician and plumber. He loved ballroom dancing, wine with family and friends, watching the birds in the backyard and all types of arts and crafts, particularly stained-glass.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his brother William F. Riley, his daughter Joyce (Riley) Wegrzyn and her husband Scott Wegrzyn, and his granddaughter Claire Wegrzyn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Bethel, Friday, Sept. 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Thursday Sept. 14, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
