Obituary: Marie Helen (Golder) Gaffney Trowbridge, Of Bethel

Marie was a lifelong Bethel resident and was a Kindergarten Teacher in Bethel for many years until her retirement.

BETHEL, CT — Marie Helen (Golder) Gaffney Trowbridge, age 94 of Bethel, died Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Danbury Hospital after a brief decline. She was the widow of John H. Gaffney and Stuart B. Trowbridge.

She was born in Danbury, June 4, 1926, daughter of the late Charles A. and Marie H. (Thurner) Golder. She was a lifelong Bethel resident and was a Kindergarten Teacher in Bethel for many years until her retirement. She was married to John Gaffney for 50 years until his death, and was fortunate and very happy to marry Stuart Trowbridge later in her life. She and her husbands loved to travel, traveling extensively in Europe and all the US states. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bethel, the Red Hat Society and loved the outdoors.

Marie is survived by her daughters: Joan G. Burke and her husband Peter of Holliston, MA, Ann M. Sacrider and her husband Richard of Bethel, CT; grandchildren: Gillian O’Mara, Joshua Burke, Sean & Daniel Sacrider and Jessica Conroy; as well as 3 great grandchildren: April, Beatrix and Joseph.

A graveside service will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel, Saturday morning at 10:30 AM. There are no calling hours. The Bethel Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
