Portrait Artist, ShawnaLee, announces winner of Gift Certificate from the DAWS Annual Ball!

Portraits By ShawnaLee announces the winner of the Annual DAWS Ball 2014 Gift Certificate! Lisa & Fran Seymore, of CT, attended the Danbury Animal Welfare Society’s annual DAWS BALL fundraiser, and came away with a beautiful portrait of their dog, Charlie, hand rendered in Graphite by ShawnaLee from photographs that they supplied.

“We got Charlie from New Milford Animal Rescue; Renee Gardner is the director there (not sure of her exact title). Renee knew we were looking for another dog, and said she had a special one that she was then evaluating. She asked us to come by Animal Rescue in a few days. We did, and that’s where we first met Charlie. He was up on his hind legs in the cage, waging his tail as we came to his cage.

Renee told us he had come up from Georgia. She said that dark colored dogs aren’t easily adopted in the South, so the rescue personnel in Georgia sent him up to us. They think he is a Chocolate Labrador / Border Collie mix.

We think he is about 10 years old, maybe a little older. He is the smartest dog I have personally known, and the most gentle. Renee gave us a wonderful gift by saving him for Lisa and me.

As for DAWs…they do so much for the dogs / cats in the community. Our friend John Piper is on the board of DAWS; we are involved in fund raising through him.
