On October 4, 2014 from 10am to 2:00pm, Catholic Charities will be hosting the second annual Take a Walk in Their Shoes walkathon to support the Morning Glory Breakfast Program‘s fight against hunger. It is estimated that the average homeless person walks 3-5 miles a day. Get sponsors and join Morning Glory staff, volunteers, donors, and friends at Meckauer Park, 16 Shelter Rock Road, Bethel, and walk against hunger and homelessness. The Green Grunion food truck will be on site with food to purchase.
The Morning Glory Breakfast Program serves a hot and healthy breakfast seven days a week out of Dorothy Day Hospitality House in Danbury. The program provides a safe environment for the hungry and homeless at a time of day when no other programs are open. While at breakfast, homeless individuals are provided with resources and services that will assist them in ending their homelessness. To date, Morning Glory has served over 180,000 meals.
Last year’s participants walked a total of 132 miles against hunger. This year’s goal is 200! Participants can begin walking any time between 10:00am and 2:00pm. There is no minimum amount to walk or raise but the first 50 walkers to raise a minimum of $25 get a free tee shirt and all walkers who raise a minimum of $100 will be entered into a raffle.
