The President approved a Disaster Declaration for Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven counties for the August 18th storm. The declaration will make federal assistance available, which can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. For instructions, visit www.disasterassistance.gov, download the FEMA App, or call 800-621-FEMA.

The Board of Selectmen set a Special Town Meeting for October 1st to consider 5 proposals. First, to waive property tax due when the amount is less than $5, since it costs the town more than the tax due to collect. We are accepting Economic Development, Department of Public Utilities, and Information Technology as distinct departments within the town. Finally, we will be voting to renew the lease for the YMCA at the Grassy Plain location.

The November 5th General Election is upon us, so it’s time to make a plan to vote! The first deadline to register to vote is Friday, October 18th. (Sometimes deciphering handwriting takes time and hundreds of registrations are coming in!)

In person early voting and in person voter registration is available from October 21st through November 3rd in Town Hall Meeting Room A from 10 am to 6 pm. Except that on Tuesday, October 29th and Thursday, October 31st the hours are extended from 8 am to 8 pm. On election day, November 5th, voter registration is available in Town Hall Meeting Room A and you vote at your normal polling location between 6 am and 8 pm. (The Voter Registrars are not off or on a warm beach on November 4th. They are setting up the poll locations.) Check out MyVote.CT.gov for more info including voting locations.

Their report is due in January and will cover many issues relating to special education, including funding, eligibility, staffing, and more. Thanks Dr. Carver for including me in the conversation!
