To find peace, harmony, bamboo and lily pads, take a short ride to North Salem, NY and visit the Hammond Museum & Japanese Stroll garden. It's a magic place that is open Wed-Sat from noon until 4P. Seniors only pay $4. Check the website for special events & café,
The Aldrich Contemporary Art museum is located on Main St. in Ridgefield. Open Tues (a free admission day) - Sun., noon until 5p. and $4 for seniors on other days. Right now they have an interesting exhibit of pen drawings & more.
Take a step back in time and visit The Lockwood-Mathews museum on West Ave. in Norwalk. Tours are offered Wed-Sun, 1p, 2p & 3p. Seniors get in for $8.
If you're feeling the itch to visit NYC, Goldstar.com is a wonderful site for discounts on shows, concerts, exhibits & all things fun. Events aren't usually posted too far in advance but if you have a flexible schedule, you can take advantage of many terrific discounts. If you travel to the city on Metro North, be sure to take advantage of seniors tickets, 50% off full one-way peak fare and can be purchased on board without paying a higher price.
I welcome suggestions for more economical day trips. The summers are short in New England and we have to take advantage of the sunny days.
