Swing Du Jour Conjures the "Gypsy Jazz" of Django

Joyous jazz by a quartet of accomplished musicians!

Swing du Jour returns to Pizzeria Lauretano for another smoldering night of "gypsy" jazz, inspired by the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli.  The quartet sold out their show a year ago, and are back on Sunday, April 22, 6:00PM at Pizzeria Lauretano, 291 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, Conn. Reservations recommended by calling203-792-1500.  The website is www.pizzerialauretano.com

Led by Bethel violinist Howard Bujese (Cool Struttin', Flagpole Radio Cafe, and a regular champ at Roxbury Fiddlin' Contest), Swing du Jour features master guitarist Doug Munro, Director Emeritus, Purchase College Jazz Program, in the Django role. The all-important rhythm guitar chair is held by Ernie Pugliese, and on stand-up bass is Westchester County veteran jazz and Broadway musician Michael Goetz.

Called some of the most joyous music on earth, this music dates back to at least the 1930s in Belgium and France.  The distinctive rhythm created between the guitars and bass is hard-driving and percussive, known as "La Pompe" (or "pump"), and the group is also known as "Le Pompe Attack" when Doug is at the helm.  Last Christmas they released a holiday CD titled "A Very Gypsy Christmas" featuring the band and up-and-coming vocalist Cyrille Aimee Daudel.  The album made it to #31 on the jazz charts (and briefly beat out Tony Bennett's Duets 2 CD!).
