Take a "Journey of the Heart" to help children with cancer

Indian summer bike tour aims to raise $100,000 for families with a child battling cancer.

Love biking? Do it for a good cause: join the “Journey of the Heart,” a 3-day, 125-mile bike tour on quiet roads and rustic byways in Connecticut and Massachusetts over an Indian summer weekend. Pedaling off on September 26, it’s hosted by Friends of Karen, a local charity that provides vital, practical and comprehensive support, at no cost, to families caring for a child battling cancer or another life-threatening illness.

“September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, but cancer has no calendar,” says Judith Factor, the charity’s Executive Director. “We relieve our families’ everyday needs and concerns throughout their frightening ordeal. No family should have to face cancer alone.”

The goal is to raise $100,000 for families in Connecticut. All expenses for riders are underwritten. You’ll ride in honor of a Friends of Karen child, like Victoria who’s been in treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma for over a year. Vinny Liscio, a participating rider, describes how inspiring this is: “I was tired, I was hurting, so I spoke through my heart to Hanna, the Friends of Karen child I was riding for. Then I felt as though I had rockets on my feet!”
