Fireworks are synonymous with our celebration of Independence Day. Yet, the thrill of fireworks can also bring pain. 200 people on average in the US go the emergency room every day with fireworks-related injuries in the month around the July 4th holiday.
The only legal fireworks in CT are sparkler & fountains. You must be 16 years of age or older to possess, sell or purchase these. Items such as bottle rockets, roman candles, & firecrackers are ILLEGAL and DANGEROUS!
And please, do not allow young children to use or hold sparklers- they burn at 1200 degrees and can easily cause 3rd degree burns!
Also, the CT State Fire Marshal has recently determined that "Sky Lanterns" are also considered a pyrotechnic and are not allowed to be used in CT. These devices cause an open flame to be lifted into the sky and carried by winds to far destinations with no control or way to prevent a fire from being started possibly several miles away!
So please, be fire smart this 4th of July and all year long, leave fireworks to the professionals!
