Will Duff Announces Intention to Run for 2nd District State Rep

The 2nd District includes Bethel, Newtown, Danbury and Redding.

BETHEL, CT-- Former Bethel Republican Town Committee (BRTC) Chairman Will Duff announced Thursday that he is planning to run for the 2nd District General Assembly Seat that may possibly be vacated by Dan Carter (R-Bethel).

Carter told Patch Thursday that he has not yet made an official announcement on running, but that he is seriously considering challenging Democrat Richard Blumenthal for the U.S. Senate seat.

"I've been talking to a lot of folks about the possibility," Carter said, stating that he thinks the state needs "someone with more backbone to fight for what's really important."

Carter, a Desert Storm veteran, is the Ranking Member (Republican Leader) on the legislature’s General Law Committee, and member of the Education and Finance, Revenue & Bonding committees.

Duff served as the Chairman of the Bethel Republican Town Committee and was replaced Wednesday by Bill Hillman.

Duff, a former Selectman and school board member said, “The 2nd District has been fortunate to have Rep. Carter’s exemplary representation over the last six years. He has been a champion in standing up to the Malloy administration’s reckless policies and irresponsible budgets which have sent people out of Connecticut in droves. I look forward to stepping up to carry on Dan’s legacy of fighting for lower taxes and less government control.”

Duff said, that he has the ability and experience in municipal government to represent the interests of Bethel, Redding, Danbury, and Newtown with "compassion, diligence, and dedication," continuing, "I look forward to listening to the people of the 2nd District in the coming months and hearing their ideas as to how we can make Connecticut better.”

Duff will seek the nomination of the Republican convention to be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.

The 2nd General Assembly District includes two thirds of Bethel, nearly two fifths of Redding, and small portions of Danbury and Newtown. It has been represented by Dan Carter since 2011.
