A New Name for the High School Auditorium and Sprucing up Town Hall
Bethany Board of Selectmen meeting Feb. 27, 2012

The Bethany Board of Selectmen discussed the Amity Board of Education plan to rename the auditorium the Dr. John J. Brady Center for the Performing Arts. First Selectman Derrylyn Gorski said that years ago, when her daughter was in high school, sports were the most important programs in the schools.
“The schools didn’t do very much to support the arts,” Gorski said. “Dr. Brady really made a difference. Now a kid can choose the arts or sports, or both.”
The board voted in favor of changing the name of the auditorium to honor Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brady who is retiring at the end of the school.

Gorski also announced a plan to partner with University of New Haven and their school of industrial engineering to redesign the office and storage space in Bethany Town Hall. Gorski said the office space has been pieced together over the years and is clearly not set up for maximum efficiency. The program would assign a UNH student the redesign as a senior project which would begin in September.
