
Using its depth to perfection, the Amity boys indoor track and field team won the Southern Connecticut Conference Championship Meet last Friday at the New Haven Athletic Center. The Spartans racked up 67 points and the SCC crown without winning a single event.
Dave Karabinos accounted for 14 of those points by placing third in both the 55 meter hurdles (8.21 seconds) and the long jump (20-feet 2-inches), as well as a fifth place 5-10 effort in the high jump.
Dean Bhatt (1000—2:40.36), Clark Shurtleff (1600—4:28.63), Jesse Sanchez (55 hurdles—8.15), and Charles Dunn (shot put—45-11 ½) all finished second in their respective events.

Other Amity place winners were: Jack Dunleavy (3rd in the 3200—9:55.75), Cory Ricks (4th in the 55 dash—6.76), and Jehanzeb Kayani (6th in the shot put—41-10 ½).
Ricks, Chris Katz, Zezhong He, and Zach Knobf combined for a foutrth place 1:38.98 in the 4x200 relay. Amity’s 4x400 relay (Bhatt, Shea Belenski, Mike Yuan, and Sanchez) were fourth with a time of 3:47.63. With their 8:12.12, Belenski, Mike Wenke, Jessie DiPietro, and Sam Spencer finished fourth in the 4x800 relay. The Spartans’ sprint medley relay (Spencer Penoro—200, Sanchez-200, He—400, and Bhatt--800) posted a fifth place 3:47.83.
