Amity's Girls Indoor Track Team is Off and Running

Every girl recorded state qualifying performances

The Amity girls indoor track team made its first two appearances of the season last week and Coach Sean Mahon couldn't be more pleased with the results.

The Lady Spartans kicked off their season at a Southern Connecticut Conference Developmental Meet, which was held at the New Haven Athletic Center. The 4x800 meter relay posted a time of 10 minutes, 36.51 seconds. That relay included Rebecca Race (2:38.8), Alyssa Doolan (2:34.6), Marina Tomei (2:45.6) and LeeAnn Beedle (2:37.5).  Allison Maier logged a 7.85 in the 55 meter dash. Cynthia Greenberg's time for the 600 was 1:48.21. Race checked out at 1:48.21, and Doolan, 1:48.87.

Jane Depgen posted a 12:38.34 in the 3200. Greenberg cleared 5-feet in the high jump. Rebecca DePalma cleared 8-6 in the pole vault. Kate Simon's shot put effort was 31-7 ½.

Mahon proudly pointed out that all of those performances were state qualifying.

On Saturday, Amity competed in the Yale Developmental Meet at the Coxe Cage in New Haven. The time for Beedle's one-mile run was 5:40.53 and Depgen checked out at 5:51.12. Greenberg dropped her 600 time down to 1:47.66. Race clocked a 3:20.75 in the 1000. Doolan's time in that same event was 3:22.46. In the 300, DePalma crossed the finish line in 45.54 and Maier was right behind her at 46.54.

According to Mahon, "These were very impressive early season performances and all of them are state qualifying. I'm very pleased with the results. I told the girls that they are well on their way of making an average team turn into a good team. We are all looking forward to an excellent indoor season."
