Assumption Church to Welcome New Pastor

WOODRBRIDGE - Reverend Glen J. Dmystryszyn will be the new pastor at Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church.

Msgr. James A. Shanley, the Vicar for Clergy for the Archdiocese who has been temporarily serving as the administrator at Assumption parish, confirmed the appointment at the weekend Masses.
In a letter to parishioners that was mailed last week, Msgr. Shanley indicated that "Fr. John Lavorgna has taken a medical leave from the position of pastor and when he returns he has asked to receive a different assignment so that Assumption can move forward now with a renewed sense of stability. " At that time, Shanley wrote that he anticipated that the Archbishop would appoint a new Administrator/Pastor for the parish in early to mid-March.

Fr. Dmystryszyn is currently serving as the parochial vicar at Saint Gregory the Great Parish in Bristol, in addition to his part-time duties as chaplain at St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol. He is also the Director of Respect Life Activities for the Archdiocese of Hartford. He was appointed Pro-Life director of the Archdiocese of Hartford in July of 2019.

Father Glen earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven in 2013. Following college, Father went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree in Sacred Theology from St. John’s Seminary in Boston, Massachusetts as well as a Pontifical degree from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas.

He was ordained to the priesthood on May 20, 2017 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford by Archbishop Leonard P. Blair. Father Glen has served in many parishes and schools throughout the Archdiocese of Hartford.

Fr. Glen is expected to arrive at Assumption parish within a few weeks.
