Four members of the Amity football team have been included on the 2010 Levi Jackson All star team. Area high school coaches chose the players for The New Haven Gridiron Club, which sponsors the all star team. They have selected Kyle Kalanta, Dylan Natale, Sebastian Alberti and Codey Ellison.
In the mid-1940's Levi Jackson was a star running back at Hillhouse High School. He went on play at Yale and was the first Afro-American to be named as Captain of the Bulldogs. Following his graduation, Jackson went on to have a long professional career with the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan. Jackson died in 2002. Greater New Haven players who come from schools in the Southern Connecticut Conference are eligible to be chosen for the Levi Jackson All Star team.
The entire all star team will be honored by the New Haven Gridiron Club at its annual award banquet, which will be held on December 9th at the Cascade Banquet Facility in Hamden. Former Hillhouse, Syracuse University, and Denver Bronco back Floyd Little, who was inducted into the National Football League Hall of Fame last summer, will also be among the honored guests.
