Homicide-Suicide Investigated In Woodbridge: Police

Deceased Woodbridge couple was found after Woodbridge police conducted a well-being check at their home, according to authorities.

WOODBRIDGE, CT — Woodbridge police said two people found dead inside an Orchard Road home died from shotgun wounds in a homicide-suicide.

Officers were dispatched to the residence of Jo Ann Karales, 66, and William Karales, 71, at 11:49 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, for a well-being check. An employee at the family business reported being unable to contact the residents, police said.

Officers entered the home through a rear window and found the two dead inside.

The Karales' bodies were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington over the weekend.

"The cause of death of Jo Ann Karales was determined to be a shotgun wound," Woodbridge Police Chief Ronald Smith wrote in a statement. "The manner of death is classified as a 'Homicide.' With regards to William Karales, his cause of death is also a shotgun wound. The manner of death is classified as a 'Suicide.'"

Smith added, "The Woodbridge Police Department extends its condolences to the family and friends of the Karales family. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Connecticut State
Police Western District Major Crime Squad for assisting the department in this investigation."
