Horse Killed in Motor Vehicle Accident in Bethany

A Friday night accident resulted in a teen being sent to the hospital with minor injuries and a horse dead of fatal injuries.

According to state police, Claude Errera, 45, of Deerfield Lane in Bethany, was traveling westbound around a curve on Fairwood Road after 10 p.m. when he swerved into the opposite lane and struck a horse being ridden by a 15-year-old Bethany girl in the eastbound lane. The girl was transported to Yale, police said. The driver had minor injuries (scrapes to the hands) and another horse and rider were uninjured.

Police said the case remains open.
