Multiple Car Break-ins at Amity Planet Fitness
Four break-ins were reported within one evening.

Police are warning Amity Planet Fitness patrons to not leave valuables in cars after a number were broken into recently.
Four break-ins were reported to police on Oct. 2 starting around 6 p.m. All the cars were in a parking lot adjacent to the gym. One vehicle was unlocked and three others had smashed windows, said Officer David Hartman, New Haven Police spokesman.
One person’s credit card was stolen and $1,900 in fraudulent charges were made at a Target store in North Haven before the card company notified the victim.

Thefts from vehicles have been a reoccuring problem at the gym as well as many other gyms across the country, Hartman said.
“Experienced thieves can perpetrate such seemingly brazen daylight break-ins in seconds,” he said. “They’re adept at intruding without making a lot of noise and somehow remain unsuspicious to passers-by.”

Oftentimes they will watch as people attempt to hide away possessions in their vehicles.
Hartman advised people to not leave valuables in unattended vehicles and to notify police of any suspicious people.
