Obit: Robert Martin, 48 of Woodbridge

He was a U.S. Army Red Beret and served two tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq.

Robert E. Martin, 48, of Woodbridge, died suddenly, June 3, 2017. Rob was born in New Haven, Jan. 13, 1969, the son of Peter and Particia Ogilvie Martin of Woodbridge, attended Amity High School where he was on the hockey team for four years.

After high school he joined the Army, graduated airborne training and became a Red Beret in the Special Forces and served two tours in Afganistan and one in Iraq, prior to his discharge in 2007. He was an avid Red Sock fan and enjoyed playing his drums. Rob didn't die in the war, but because of the war. Moral injury is a wound to the conscience and nothing inflicts it deeper than war. Beside his parents, he is survived by his siblings, Sean (Kate) Martin of Woodbridge, Lauren (Kevin) Kiely of Milford and Leigh (John) Farnsworth of ME. He was the uncle of Kelsey, Allison, Kaitlin, Jack, Finn and Declan and was also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends and family are invited to go directly to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Center Rd, Woodbridge, Friday at 11 o'clock, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery, with full military honors.
