State Police Release Memorial Day DWI Stats

Woodbridge enjoys a relatively quiet weekend, police say.

State police were kept pretty busy over the Memorial Day holiday, while Woodbridge police enjoyed "a relatively quiet weekend," according to Woodbridge Police Department spokesman Bob Crowther.

Crowther said the department did not make any DWI arrests on a holiday weekend that is typically a time when that time of crime occurs, as evidenced in a state police report.

From midnight on Friday, May 27, through midnight on Monday, May 31, state police tacked up the following stats:

  • 260 accidents.
  • 18 accidents with injuries.
  • 4 fatal car accidents.
  • 70 DWI arrests.
  • 978 seatbelt tickets.
  • 2,013 speeding tickets.

The Memorial Day weekend enforcement operation utilized additional troopers who manned sobriety checkpoints, targeted DWI and aggressive driving and patrol across the State of Connecticut, according to state police.
