The winner and runner-up will receive a prize consisting of poetry books and/or a gift card. Snacks will also be provided.

The event is the brainchild of Girl Scouts Cordelia Keberle and Allison Rozear from Troop 060096 who prepared this event to qualify for their Silver Award, the second highest award a Girl Scout can achieve.

“In order to achieve the Silver Award a Girl Scout must find a gap in their community and make a change for the better. We have identified a gap in the lack of opportunities to write and share poetry for tweens and teens in our town and have connected with the local Blackstone Memorial Library in Branford to create an Annual Poetry Slam and workshop. Our goal is to spread the love of poetry throughout the town”.
