BRANFORD, CT — He's just a pup, actually. Evander was abandoned with "horrific" wounds to his paw. Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter workers noted that three digits on his paw "appeared to be intentionally sliced off." It's explained that the wounds "subsequently went necrotic and he could have died from his injuries."

"Evander came to us very fearful, as you can imagine, he still is at times. He has been in a foster home with one of our Animal Control Officers, but he will need to come back to the shelter soon and everyone would rather he went straight into a home," a Facebook post reads. "We realize this is a tall order, but this pup never asked to be traumatized or abused."

Believed to be between nine and 12 months-old, the shelter said the neutered and vaccinated pup "may be a Yorkie wire-haired terrier mix."

"Evander would do best with someone who has had fearful or abused dogs. Right now, Evander wants to be an only pet and without kids in the home," it's noted.

He'll also need special help.
